Chalmers St @ Spectrum

The word must be spreading - Spectrum is heaving tonight. It's shoulder-to-shoulder, wall-to-wall madness in here as everyone is craning to get a better look at Sydney's Chalmers Street. They bring to the table a clean and wholesome brand of pop-rock and serve it up with dirty bass and flame-licked guitar riffs. This is the kind of show that nearly everyone should be able to appreciate (thrash-metal fans excluded); there's a distinct level of innocence and intimacy in the performance, a buzz of excitement radiating from a band who have found their feet… and an audience. The group is fronted by a slightly shy but totally cute songstress with a beautiful and powerful voice that lifts the room and shakes the cobwebs out of it. When combined with her guitarist's voice, the harmonies have a Killing Heidi quality to them and it's not surprising that the crowd cries for an encore at the end. What is surprising is that they get to play one… the mob speaks and Jager listens! Drew Clarke, Jager Uprising

Not a bad review - but then they are always nice!

Paris in September

Hi guys

here I am in Paris! I don't think I have eaten so much or walked so far in a long time!

The Apartment we are staying in is fantastic- even if the TV doesn't work.

I am trying to find out if and where they are showing the AFL grand final in Paris!

GO BARRY GO!

So far the weather here has been fantastic. Much better than when I was here in May. No celebrity sightings as yet but.....

Paris - cheese, wine and croissants. As Big Kev would say - I'm excited!
Tomorrow Anni and I are heading off to Euro Disney, the entire concept seems quite bizarre to me, but apparently it is the most popular fee paying attraction in Europe!

Till next time... au revoir!

MBA Exams

Unfortunately I appeared to make one giant oversight in my planning to switch from Part time to Full Time MBA. Exams!!!

I hate them! And I have forgotten how stressful it is to do multiples! I have just finished Supply Chain Management and I have Corporate Finance tomorrow and Accounting on Friday.

It seems as the new kid - no one told me not to take all the electives with exams. What was I thinking - Luckily I am now enlightened for next term!

This morning I was eating some toast and I looked down and WOW, what was on my toast one piece had Michael Jackson face with Yeah and the other said Not Guilty! I was shocked, so I saved it and waited and then today at 4:30 my time it came on the news and there it was Michael Jackson is found NOT Guilty! What a find I could not belive that the morning of the Verdict it was on my toast FIRST! So I just knew I had to get this on ebay so up for auction is 2 piece of toast one has Michael Jackson face and the word Yeah and the other is the toast that say NOT Guilty!

The Krust is unemployed

Ok - so talking in the third person is pretty rank. Think Grievous in that ridiculous fire soap channel 7 used to run. No more of that....

I am now officially unemployed! I finished up with Optus after almost 4 years on the 17th of June. What a spin out! Found this old photo - taken from my sitting at favorite desk while I was at Optus.

I am off to study full time - looking forward to staying up and out late, getting up late, my concession card and drunken band rehearsals. Bring it on!!!!

Also looking forward to Uni holidays - hopefully Chalmers St can take it to the road in Dec 05. Brisbane and Melbourne look out!!!

So far today I have done absolutely nothing. I am thinking of going down to the bank, and maybe stopping off to have a coffee - may take Cassie with me.

I am going to have to learn to do this whole budget thing - Sarah, Ray - HELP!

And the winner is . . . . Greece

Congratulations Helena - you've done Greece proud!

Get the low down at the official Eurovision site. Here's a sample of what you can find on the site...

"Next, it was the bookies’ favourite Greece. Helena was wearing a beautiful short dress and looked confident as she sang her racy pop song, while throwing herself into some complicated choreography. At one point she was lifted high above the head of her dancers, mid-chorus, but her vocal performance showed no sign of disruption. A really good performance."

The Pelican at the Sarah Bettens show, Le Trabendo, Paris

Percy on Tour...
Percy managed to see Sarah Bettens (Paris) on his world tour. Percy and I joined my friend Olivier in Paris to see the show

Le Trabendo
The venue was someone out in the boonies to the Nth East of Paris (I think). I can't really remember - I just got on a bus. I have decided I like French buses - they are green .

The venue had a very weird setup - you came in at the side of the stage, but there were barriers and stairs in the way. We grabbed some beers (gotta love the plastic cups) and headed down the front. We got a good position on the right hand side in front of Eric.

The gig
The show was fantastic - I really love Sarah's new stuff - especially "One second" which is my favourite song on the new album. It's actually in my Top 10 of all-time songs-ever! I must have listened to it more than 100 times on the way over from Australia. I don't think I could ever live without my iPod!

Europe

I made it over to Europe on a very crappy American Airlines flight from New York to London. Then off to Tallin via Helsinki.

How much do I love my European Union Passport - no silly forms or ridiculous questions like...
  • Q - How long do you intend to stay in London, (Are you going to stay here illegally)
  • A - 1 week (I can't stand the weather so you don't seriously think I am staying do you??)

Plus you can carry around as much alcohol as you like - I think the limit into the UK is personal use and into Estonia is 110L of beer, 100L of wine and 10L of spirits! This EU thing is tops.

Now I am in London, having had my first serious travel mishap. They left my bag in Helsinki. Apparently the connections was too short. This was slightly concerning as I have Jock's mega cool guitar pedal board in my suitcase....

However, this meant that I didn't have to lug it all over London on the tube and they brought it directly to where I was staying (with Jo and John in Angel).

Picture will follow soon - this stupid internet cafe has n0 photoshop or even paint to manipulate the photos.

Will talk soon....

She hasn't been heard from since announcing she was off to a secret location for spring break. I have flown to Boston to fin out - rumours circulating are:

  • She has joined an all girls kazoo band and is travelling Nth America;

  • She has been detained by Indonesian authorities on drug trafficking charges; or
  • She can't be bothered writing in the blog.

A few random thoughts about my journey to Toronto:

  • Qantas business class rocks! (they have campari)
  • United Sucks (no free alcohol)
  • The high water in Nth America still scares me ... after all this time
  • Hotel airports are always dissapointing
  • American coffee sucks
  • American infomercials are strangely persuasive
  • Sam Adams good, Budweiser really really really bad...

Chalmers St - First gig for 2005 (and first gig with The Krust)

Hi peoples,

I'm playing my first gig with Chalmers St! If you want to come and hear some great rock/pop and some particularly patchy bass playing, come along:

Monday 21 February, 9pm

Hopetoun Hotel
Cnr Fouveaux and Bourke Streets

Surry Hills

Venue info can be found here! They have a good beer selection and cheap sparkling white - for those who are that way inclined!

It's part of a band comp to play Homebake so the more people we get there the better!

Coke vs Diet Coke

Today I began pondering the whole Coke vs Diet Coke thing. Coke apparently has 7 teaspoons of sugar in it, but diet coke has weird chemicals that can rot your insides. I feel I should be drinking diet coke, caus coke is just bad. but is diet coke just as bad? I am not really sure. Diet Coke tastes pretty grotty - and the stuff in it is making it taste grotty.

Maybe I shouldn't be drinking any kinda of coke I hear you say - good point, but completely impractical so we'll move on.

According to Joi Ito, see article , Aspartame/Nutrasweet also breaks down to diketopiperazine [DKP] which is proven to cause Brain Tumors! Brain Tumors used to be rare. Several of the rats in the original study formed brain tumors during their Aspartame/Nutrasweet exposure. The researchers surgically removed the tumors and returned the rats to the study and discounted the tumors.

I'm not sure how true it is but it sounds pretty bad! Interestingly my google serach brought up heaps more articles about Diet Coke than Coke. Hmmm interesting.

Well i haven't reached a decision yet - I think I will continue on my Diet Coke drinking, with the exception of Fridays when we have burgers, until I come up with the answer

Spot the famous bass player!

Hey guys - can you pick the most famous bass player! Kath & I saw Midnight Oil play at manly Leagues, a warm-up gig for their stellar Wave Aid performance on 29th January 2005. We had a bit of a chat with the guys backstage afterwards. They were all very excited about playing Wave Aid. Obviouslt Kath and I chatted with Bones about how hard it is to actually play bass - harder than it looks! ;)

Kath (Ex Taffeta Punk, Roomy and Tantrum)
Bones (Ex Swingers, Midnight Oil)
Kristi (Ex Melba, Ex Not Happy Jan, Chalmers St)

The highlights from the show were Lucky Country, Brave Faces and Blue Sky Mine. It was geat to catch up with old mates John, Ribman, Luke, Jo, Andrew, Nathan, Deslea, funny bald guy, crazy french Miron, Seweryn with beard, Justin, Terry and all you other guys.

Oh, I almost forgot, another highligh was getting to east some of the crew's Thai food (that way I could avoid scary RSL type food from downstairs)

I've been looking through OPUS at my photos and I came across this one from last year! I was in a nightclub inTallinn, Estonia in June 2003 and ran into Tanel Padar the 2001 winner of the Euroision Song Contest. Being a huge fan of the contest I as naturally stoked!

K's Choice gig - Boston

This show was amazing. Definately worth the plan trip over from Australia!!! The last time I saw K's Choice was 97 when the came out to tour Australia. Unfortunately they haven't been back since so I had to get over to the US to see them on their final tour.

What can I say - it was absolutely fantastic!

I actually saw "Losing You" played on my flight over from Sydney to San Francisco!!! It was definately a sign.

KT and I came from a Halloween party before hand, so here we are about to get changed in the Paradise Rock Club, Boston.

I have a some happy snaps below:

...Sarah Bettens...

Numerous vodka and oranges, terrible singing from The krust. Even worse dancing due to knee restrictions. Not even the lawnmower move got a guernsey tonight....

... Gert Bettens...

After show set list signing, photos and banter...

Boston Town - Harvard Business School

Hi Team

will now write about my time in boston. Spent Friday day in KTs classes learning about Barilla pasta and Suave (apparently a low price shampoo - no i don't expect any of you to know it). Class was very interesting and I could pretty much follow. There are about 90 people in the class, yet it is extremely controlled. Very impressive.

Spent the evening hanging out at a few places drinking some local beer and non local vodka.

I can't remeber what this bar was called but it had a communist theme with cool stuff on the wall!

Here we are about to enter a cheesy bar fll of 80s tunes: Madonna, Kylie and Bon Jovi

Then off to "hong kong" to drink a bowl of indescribable....

Postcard from Sharon

Dear KT,

Jennifer and I & having an absolute blast. Partying in NY is so much fun. It's nice, it's different, it's unusual. Only bummer is I am yet to find Dippity-Bix or Footy Franks.

Remember, you're a hornbag!

Thanks for having me ...

Actually Krust, I'm at the bar on the right (it's all opposite on this side) and I'm considering using the toilets on the left but I'm afraid of the high water levels ... I'll hold for now.

How's the coffee search going? Being a person who only drinks coffee in absolute emergencies, I don't share your dream. But I love a good Milo in the afternoon. Thanks to Jocko, I'm all stocked up. Gotta be made of Milo.

Saw the largest ever tub of marg in the supermarket today. Just thought you'd like to know. It was (no joke) the size of my head. And my head is not small. America is the land of the large. In fact, since I've been here, I have not once finished a meal. My dream is to completely consume one American meal in a single sitting. I'll keep you posted.

OK, just about to finish up a case on the VW Beetle, then out with my classmates to Redline (one of the usual places to go at Harvard Square). Promise to call at least one of them a flaming galah ;-)

But before I go ... I was thinking about writing a song (it's my goal for today). I have the first line: "Just a-walking down the road" ... but that's it. Can you help?

Welcome to Tickets Money Passport!

Join KT and The Krust on their hilarious adventures. Kt is teaching the Australian language at the Harvard Business School. The Krust is hobbling around Sydney searching for the perfect coffee.

Here you will find ramblings, photos, images and other general crap. Come inside, bar on the left, toilets on the right!

Until next time...
